Three Amigos! 1986

I watched the movie Three Amigos and it was hilarious! A really good comedy movie you don't want to miss. Movie was directed by John Landis and the main actors are Chevy Chase(Dusty Bottoms), Steve Martin (Lucky Day), and Martin Short (Ned Nederlander). To start off, all of the actor's were well developed. At the beginning we see the three amigos (Dusty, Lucky, and Ned) singing the three amigos song. Very funny scene and they worked together perfectly as actors and their characters. They have a special friendship bond where they all stay together and never be apart. The evil man called "El Guapo"(Alfonso Arau) ("the handsome", even though he is so not handsome) played his role very good in distinguishing which one was the evil villian. Very effective in showing the evil villian in the way he bossed his people around and when he kept shooting everyone at a bar. Carmen (Patrice Martinez) is the woman who calls the Three Amigos to go to the small town of Santo Poco so they can help the village with the bandits such as El Guapo and his gang. She also develops a crush on Lucky Day (Steve Martin).Dusty Bottoms attribute is that he is the dumb one from the 3 amigos. For example, at the end of the movie, Lucky tells everyone to drop their weapons and Dusty was holding his gun at El Guapo and when Lucky said to drop all weapons, Dusty dropped his weapon-which he didn't suppose to unless you want el Guapo to escape, and picked it up again. Lucky is sort of the leader, he takes the most responsibility from his amigos. Ned is the one that follows, and is the first one to tell the other 2 amigos that leaving the village without fighting off el guapo is not the right way to make a good impression on the village-it makes them seem cowards, which they are at times. At the end he convinces them to fight el guapo and his gang. Characters are casted well. All actors and their characters portray their roles well by the 3 amigos being funny and standing up for the village, and the evil el Guapo in having completely control of the village by threatening them and shooting them.
I liked how all the characters seem to be chosen perfectly together. They all have the right amount of being funny and sarcastic or being cruel like "el Guapo". The whole movie seemed to be well made, felt like your average criminal taking over a small town (in movies i mean). I don't think I disliked anything, everything was good as it was. The plot is about the 3 Amigos that are actors in hollywood but later they get fired from their job since they wanted a better contract deal. Meanwhile in the small village of Santo Poco, the town is having problems of their own with a bandit called "El Guapo". At a church Carmen sees the Amigos movie of the 3 Amigos and decides to contact them by telegram to help out with the El Guapo situation (she thinks they are real crime fighters), also she offers thousands of pesos if they do their job. When they arrive at Mexico (thinking the telegram meant that they were going to be part of a foreign film starring with "el Guapo")with their mexican outfits they are ready to fight them off. Later on Lucky realizes that the bandits and their guns are for real, the 3 amigos run away from the village, and el Guapo kidnapps Carmen. But then the 3 amigos come back to fight like men and rescue Carmen at El Guapo's 40 birthday party,(scratch that I meant his 33 birthday since he doesn't want to seem old). At the end like every happy ending, El Guapo dies from a gunshot and village is saved, and the 3 amigos leave (without the money offer- they thought that helping out was better & more important than money so that's what they did). One of the major conflicts that I saw was that how were the 3 amigos going to fight off so many of el guapo's bandits. It is resolved when the amigos have a plan from their movie they did called "Amigos"- to dress everyone in the village up in those same mexican outfits the amigos were wearing so the bandits would get confused in which ones were the real amigos and it would be easier to kill all the bandits.
Yes, the characters do interact well with each other. Well, at least all the good characters , but the evil bandits don't get along with nobody...well maybe their drinks. There is chemistry between the characters. Like how I said before, the 3 amigos were casted very well beacause all three actors are very funny and they seemed like brothers instead of just good-friend-actors in the movie. The 3 amigos each had their different personalities that made them different but united. Some key pieces of dialogue in this work is at the end of the movie Lucky tells El Guapo, "Not so fast, el Guapo. I will fill you so much with lead, I will use your death as a pencil." I hope I didn't interpret this wrong but I think he meant that he will shoot him so many times that he would have enough lead in him to use as a pencil. Then el Guapo responds to him saying "What do you mean?", then Lucky tells him "I don't know." I choose that scene because I thought it was so funny and dumb in how Lucky said i don't know. Very funny scene that you don't want to miss.
The setting takes place in Hollywood sets, but mostly it is shot at in Mexico-in the small villiago of Santo Poco. Some of the stages are a desert, a bonfire with cactus around the 3 amigos, and the village itself. The desert, well it looks like a desert with nothing on it, maybe just sand. The bonfire stage/scene is where the 3 amigos camped out before returning to the town were they chickened out. There was a bonfire, they were eating bats for dinner (yum! jk), there were cactus and wild animals like a mountain lion or an animal right next to them(in which they didn't seem scared). And the village was a big set where all the houses and people stayed at. The village houses looked old looking-like the wild wild west time. The props they used were their weapons/guns. They used them to threaten the villagers and to use it as a weapon to eliminate their enemies like el Guapo. Yes they were effective most of the time. Other times Dusty tried to do a cool trick with the gun but ended up almost shooting his foot right off (wonder why he's the dumb one =).
Music was very helpful because it expressed the mood of the movie , if that was action, or funny scenes and their characters mood to tell when they were happy or when they were scared. Lighting added to the work very effectively in highlighting the special events like how the sun was glowing a lot when the 3 amigos had an idea or plan. Also the sun helped convey the message when the amigos were in the desert on their horses and they were very thirsty on a hot sunny day- where they exagerated their thrist a little bit (a very funny scene by the way). The costuming they used that were the main ones were there Mexican outfits. They used them to portray themselves as the zorro's, to be confident, and warrior-like. The oufits were very helpful at the end were all the villagers dressed up like them to confuse el Guapo and his bandits when they came to the village to attack the town. Overall, very good movie and very funny.
